Our Process
Building Your Home
We take pride in quality craftsmanship, superior products, and a thoughtful process that creates an enjoyable home build experience.
Lee Blythe explains the home building process.
step 1
01
Initial Consultation
Our process begins with an initial consultation where we get to know each other. During this meeting, we will discuss the goals of your project and answer any questions about our design and construction process you may have. We will determine if Blythe Custom Homes custom home builders is a good fit for your home building project and if it is, we will work together to establish a targeted budget.
step 2
02
Vision
This is the fun stuff. We go through a questionnaire and interview so that your vision, style, wants and needs are understood. We want to look at homes you’ve found online, pictures of features you love, and discuss anything else that helps us meet your goals during the home building process.
step 3
03
Design
There are four steps in the home plan design process:
Concept: Basic preliminary floor plan design and elevations sketch to convey overall intent and flow of design.
Visualization: Once conceptual drawings are approved, real dimensions and elevations are developed. At this stage, we will review your plans in 3-D electronically, to help you visualize the interior spaces and overall exterior view of home. For example, we can show rooms with furniture so you can see the area better and “virtually” walk through a room, or look out a window.
Construction Plans: This set includes a fully dimensioned floor plan and elevation along with a foundation plan and electrical plan.
Selections: Selections include the finishes and fixtures that will complete your home. Within the first month after going under contract, we’ll set up meetings with suppliers and help you finalize your selections.
step 4
04
Budget
We will create and discuss detailed specifications and budget that outlines all the aspects of construction. Realistically, it’s difficult to make all decisions at this point, and we understand that. We are experts in our field and can undoubtedly adapt as we go along, but the more that gets decided upon during this phase, the less the risk of going over your budget. If a preconstruction decision cannot be made, we can help determine accurate allowances for you with our quality vendors and trades.
step 5
05
Pre-construction
We will schedule a meeting with you at your home site to discuss orientation of the house, placement of house, and conduct a land evaluation (what trees need to be taken down and other prepping). We also will prepare a plot plan showing your future home on the property.
step 6
06
Construction
During construction, we have multiple walkthroughs with you. Additionally, you will meet with our experienced team of subcontractors and vendors to discuss plumbing, lighting, cabinets, paint, and more. You will meet with our team as many times necessary throughout the process to finalize selections and allow you to make good decisions on features that are important to you.
Once we have completed construction, we will do a final walkthrough to inspect your new home. Then, we hand over the keys.
